Yard Job, Extreme Patience, and the Fast Freight
A visit to the RBMN in October, 2023. This is the second part of day two. After the PISB job suddenly tied up in the Stauffer Industrial Park, we headed back to Pittston, but moments before we arrived, a pair of MP1500s heading out was spotted. This was the Pittston Yard Job to Taylor Yard and return. After getting back to Taylor Yard and watching them work with much of the traffic that came in with PISB, along with seeing a long Norfolk Southern train, a test of patience was in order, waiting for MEPI in Ramson. Of course just as we gave up and were driving out, it suddenly showed, and we were limited to jumping out of the car for a quick photo flic.kr/p/2pavo66 The MEPI would test our p...

"Railfanning on the CVL" - The Evolution of Model Railroading in My Life

With the portion of my layout around Appalachian Paper Products and the Chessie locomotive shops having a decent amount of scenery completed, I set out to do some railfanning, watching trains in action for a few days. At the beginning of this video the scenery is in its rough stage, but by the end you will have a better idea of what it became. Even more detailing will come in time. If you don't...

Chapter Seven of the series shows the progress on the Chessie System locomotive shops and the surrounding area. The work was done during roughly the same time period as "Appalachian Paper Products" (last chapter). This is simply a photo montage as the scenery progressed. Once again I present this without narration. I would really appreciate any questions or comments on what you see!

Making use of the space inside an over-under loop with "Appalachian Paper Products". This is one of the 3 big industries on my layout to go along with several smaller ones. This was done during about a half years time with a few gaps in the documentation. No narration, just a photo montage. I would be thrilled to talk about this if you have any comments or questions.

N-Scale was the choice for my many years of model railroading, but I was not getting along with the small size as I got older. Thanks for sharing your MR journey! I enjoyed watching the 5-part origin story and am interested in seeing the rest of your completed layout. My first scenic HO layout I built with my best friend while in High School in my parents garage on a couple narrow work benches a local business was gettimg rid of. In college I did a small 2x4 (or maybe 2.5 wide?) N scale layout. 30 years later... this year I decided to buy some HO track, a new Atlas locomotive, and some used Athearn BB locomotives and railcars so I can run and display trains after all these years. Not sure where this will take me due to space constraints and RCs competing for my time and resources. It is fun to have trains again and a hobby I can do inside the house!

I really hope R&N stays independent and gen-2 exclusive for a long while, they're very quickly becoming one of the last places in the world you can hear six or more 645 motors chugging in run-8 up a hill. In a world obsessed with efficiency and mergers, R&N says "why fix what was never broken?" and still runs their railroad like it's 1992, and I absolutely love that about them.

Thank you! I would definitely stay with Atlas code 55 if I did N-scale again. In my opinion, besides being the most realistic, there are many options, like flex track which I used a lot. As you could see, I had trains running at a pretty good speed. The only issue would be older rolling stock that had over-sized flanges for this track. Like I said in the video, only my failing close up vision and the fact that I had the space, sent me to HO scale. I'd be very happy to answer any other questions as you build your layout. @KBuckyRailVideo 6 месяцев назад

Your history is a bit mis-guided. Conrail was quite healthy from the mid 1980's until it was split in a bidding war between CSX and Norfolk Southern. The value of Conrail stock rose quite a bit. Many railroads that are financially strong can still get bought out by other railroads. The end of Conrail had nothing to do with its financial status. Look at the recent KCS example. The railroads that formed Conrail had become bankrupt, including the disastrous Penn Central. Please do some research. Thanks for your comment!
